Trying to lose weight? Eat lentils for lunch

Lentils get pretty a bad rap for their ‘gassy effects’, but it turns out the loading up on this beloved member of the pulse-family could actually help you get lose weight and get a flat stomach.  We should start by saying there isn’t one miracle food that is going to give you a flat stomach, but experts say that cutting out refined sugar and reducing simple-carbohydrates can help you reach your goal.

According to this nutritionist, eating lentils at lunchtime could help to flatten your stomach by keeping you fuller for longer and fueling you with a unique combination of fiber, carbohydrates and protein.  They are also a very cost-effective and veganuary-friendly ingredient to include in your lunch.  They’ll also help to keep you fuller for longer and help you beat those 3pm sugar cravings.

The great thing about the pulse family is that they have a low glycaemic index, which means they can help keep blood sugar levels steady and can potentially help your body metabolise fat.  Dietitian, Breanna Crawley told that while lentils can cause gas and bloating in some people it won’t effect everyone.  ‘They provide a good source of protein and are gluten free.   I’d recommend including them in your lunch as they can be rather heavy on the stomach of an evening.’    (*Source: METRO Sunday 15 Jan 2017)
